Photography with Maisie Cousins

In November 2024 we introduced the young people to the contemporary photographer Maisie Cousins, whose work playfully treads the line between the beautiful and the grotesque. Maisie compiles close-up, cropped images of detailed subject matter, often combining everyday items and textures such as food, flowers, waste, toys and glitter, with the human body.

We co-designed a workshop with Maisie, tailored to the young people's' needs and interests. Maisie showed them how to use the camera equipment and macro lenses; talked through her work and process; and set them creative briefs around producing surprising combinations and layering images.
